Being Present vs Living In Your Own World | Being Creative When The World Is In Turmoil
If you follow me on social media, you might have noticed that I have had a bit of a hiatus. It just felt like a bit too much. The war between Ukraine and Russia, coupled with innocent people parishing daily because of the war between Israel and Hamas. For months I was waking up sad and would start crying because I felt this overwhelming sense of 'what's the point'. This is on top of seeing innocent black people being killed every other day without repercussions and countless other injustices that face other marginalized groups daily. The older I get, the more it becomes harder to turn a blind eye to what is happening in the world.
I noticed that when people would ask how I was doing, I stopped saying, "Great!" I said, I was sad af and I told them why. Some people shared my sentiment and others had no clue what I was even talking about, which made me even more upset. So, I decided to take a step back from the emotionally draining sensory overload of social media. It has given me a bit of peace and clarity. It is now the middle of December and I did this around the middle of October, so it's been about 2 months. I plan on rejoining the matrix after the new year, but I want to be more intentional with what I share and why.
Don't get me wrong, there will be an outfit of the day and what I did this week post sprinkled in now and then. But, the rest of the time I am coming with intention. So, I came up with a formula to help guide my posting habits.
10% - Personal / Personality / Random
40% - Advocate for ethical and sustainable fashion brands/practices.
40% - Educate through my platform and share ways to care for the clothing you own. Share fashion news about ethical and sustainable advancements, and offenses.
10% - Projects / Final Images from photoshoots / Before & After images and video from client projects & BTS.
Do you have a posting formula?
I also want to create more of a community of like-minded people, so I plan on blogging more, so I can try this form of expression and connect with people like you, outside of the standard social media platforms.
What are you planning to do differently in 2024? It will be here before you know it. Whatever you do, whenever you do it... just know it's the right time. New year, mid-year, or end of the year is always a good time to change it up and do something that your future self will thank you for, am I right?
Let's not look back on another year and think, damn I guess I'll just do it next year.
Cheers to holistic healing, growth, enlightenment, and welcoming the blessing that this new year brings. I hope the Year of the Dragon is good to you and your loved ones.
You are not alone,
Lauren
